Atomic Books. Baltimore, MD

Founded in 1992, this independent bookstore closed down before re-opening in 2001. Search the catalogue by author or title or browse the zine/magazine title list. Atomic Books' keeps a blog. Read The Book Standard's article on the book store.

 

Bodega Distribution. Montreal, QC

The new incarnation of HighwaterBooks.com since it's bankruptcy in 2005, Bodega carries a selection of independent comics, mini-comics and books many be local publishers. Browse the catalogue (over 70 comic titles). Purchase by PayPal.

 

 

Driving Blind. Keyport, NJ

Started in 2002 with the goal of distributing zines and crafts made by physically disabled people, Driving Blind now offers a selection of zines (made by both the disabled and able-bodied).The catalogue of over 50 titles may be browsed alphabetically by title. Purchase by PayPal, cheque, cash or money order.

 

 

Echo Zine Distro. Madison, WI

Opened in 2000, this distro carries local zines and per-zines from around the USA and abroad.

 

Etsy.

Etsy was launched in June 2005 and is "an online marketplace for buying and selling all things handmade." You may search Etsy by keyword, material, colour, place, time, tag or category. Search Etsy for zines.

 

 

Fall of Autumn Distro: Independent Publishing, Creative Resources and Distribution. Chicago, IL

This co-operative distro has a catalogue of 25 popular zines. They also produce podcasts (21 and counting) with zine creators. Their blog on MySpace provides information on new podcasts, reviews etc.

 

Great Worm Express Distribution. Toronto, ON

Great Worm distributes alternative publications; zines, books, videos and music. Browse the zine catalogue of just under 100 titles, arranged by category, popularity or most recent additions. Canadian zines are easily located (a Canadian flag beside the title). Material may be purchased by PayPal, moneyorder or cash.

 

 

Hot Iron Press. Denton, TX

Hot Iron press distributes artists' books, music, comics and zines. The zine catalogue can be found here.

 

Infoshop: Independent Art & Media. Toledo, OH

Clamor magazine started InfoSHOP in 2001 to sell their magazine subscriptions and issues. It has since expanded to distribute other independently created publications (print, video, audio and art). Browse the catalogue of over 100 zines.

 

Last Gasp. San Francisco, CA

Last Gasp was founded in the early 1970's and distributes underground books, zines, magazines, comics, graphic novels, audio, video and 'swag.' Search (keyword) or browse the catalogue of over 300 zines and magazines.

 

Microcosm Publishing. Portland, OR

This independent publisher and distributor has been in operation since 1996. They now offer a selection of over 300 zines through their online and print catalogue. Search their online catalogue alphabetically by title or by locally created subject. Records include a brief description of content, links to other issues, a cover photo and physical description. Microcosm also provides a top ten 'popularity' list, a 'new arrivals' list and a revolving staff 'top list.' Items may be purchased online through 'shopping cart' method using PayPal, or by money order, cheque or cash. Quimby's Bookstore. Chicago, IL

Operating since 1991, Quimby's are self-described "Specialists in the importation, distribution, and sale of unusual publications, aberrant periodicals, saucy comic booklets and assorted fancies as well as a comprehensive miscellany of the latest independent 'zines' that all the kids have been talking about." Sweet Candy Distro. Philadelphia, PA

Sweet Candy Distro owner and zine publisher, Sage Adderley, opened her distro, zine library and alternative arts center in her home in 2004.
